French Fries and Live Music Coming to the Italian MarketThe Italian Market dive bar and music venue, Connie's Ric Rac, is turning 10 years old this year, and along with a slew of anniversary parties and concerts, the Ric Rac crew is expanding into the space next door, opening Connie's Kitchen, a sit-down space for guests to eat, drink, and listen to live music. Connie's started off as a simple BYOB music venue for local acts, and in 2014, fresh off a liquor license acquisition, it became a full-fledged bar.

Music Affects How Beer Tastes, Study SaysAccording to an abstract, the study — which was led by Dr. Felipe Carvalho of Vrije Universiteit Brussel — comprised of three experiments "in which participants tasted a beer twice, and rated the experience, each time under the influence of a different sound stimulus. The participants were not informed that they were, in fact, tasting the same beer." Volunteers at the Music Instruments Museum in Brussels tasted three different beers in a range of styles from pale ale to dark, with alcohol content that varied from 4.5 to 8 percent ABV. "'The results demonstrate that soundtracks that had been specially developed to evoke a specific taste can effectively be used in order to influence the participants' beer tasting experience," they concluded.

Terror fears to mute French su...

From: Music

After two terror attacks in Paris killed 147 people in 2015, the mood in the capital is downcast as it prepares for the annual music festivalFrance's annual summer solstice music extravaganza — a party it has exported across the globe — will be slightly muted this year amid terror fears and the Euro 2016 football tournament. The Fete de la Musique (Make Music Day) sees citizens throng the streets to enjoy thousands of pop-up concerts — whether a marching band in a garden, a rock group on a corner or a Parisian playing DJ from his apartment window to a crowd below.
