Katy Perry Drops The Official Music Video For Her Olympics Anthem 'Rise'Everything might be going terribly wrong in Rio leading up to the 2016 Olympics (always remember your keys when you lock up the stadium, folks!) but Katy Perry’s rollout of her latest inspirational feminist anthem “Rise” has been going exactly according to plan. Now, Perry is dropping the official music video for the track just a day before the Rio Olympics opening ceremonies are set to begin. NBC already cut together an inspirational set of moments with a bit of Rio’s color and traditions, so anything too over the top on Katy’s part would take away from the glory and the accomplishments that the competing athletes so rightly deserve.

Justice Department to require ...

From: Music

Music executives are sworn in to testify about music licensing before a hearing of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in WashingtonThe Justice Department said on Thursday that it will not alter consent decrees that it originally reached with ASCAP and BMI in 1941 but would require the licensing organizations to change how they collect royalties, prompting a furious response. In the complicated world of music royalties, songwriters and publishers such as Sony/ATV hire ASCAP, BMI and other performance rights groups to license their songs to digital streaming services, radio and television stations, bars and other music users. For years, in cases where ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) or BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) did not represent all of the authors of a song, they would issue fractional licenses and presume that the licensee would ensure others were paid.
